Why I won't be creating my own wedding florals

Welcome to the wonderful world of planning a wedding.
There are a lot of details that need planning: catering, cakes, dresses, suits, alcohol, wedding favours, even stationary! So, you’re looking online for how to DIY things, make things cheaper or different alternatives, and one of the main things that pops up is to DIY your own flowers, or skip them altogether!
Now being a florist, I am obviously biased. Flowers are an integral part of weddings in my opinion (well, in my opinion they’re an integral part of life), and while you can forgo flowers or even DIY them, there won’t be that special touch given by florists who are trained in wedding florals.
I won’t talk about forgoing flowers here as that’s your own decision; I have seen beautiful flower alternatives and honestly you do you! It’s your day and your memories. But I would like to talk about DIYing your flowers, so let’s get into it.
My partner and I have been engaged for a few years, and we've been together for even longer. So, you might be thinking I will be doing my own wedding flowers because I’m a florist, but it’s for that reason that I won’t be doing them.
It takes a lot of skill to be a florist. We incorporate a lot of design theory, practical knowledge, and other information that may not be readily thought of. In my case, I also incorporate a lot of floriography, crystal knowledge, and other symbology/magickal knowledge that I am continuously educating myself on.
Being highly critical of my work, I know I wouldn’t be able to help myself from ‘fixing’ my arrangements continuously during the wedding. Getting another florist to create my wedding flowers would save my sanity and save my partner and friends from having to chide me to stop!
Not only that, but floristry takes a lot of hours. I would be working the days leading up to and the morning of the wedding on creating and perfecting arrangements. My blog post about what exactly the kind of work a florist puts into your beautiful wedding arrangements goes into a lot more detail and can be found here. The number of hours I would have to spend just doing the flowers would make me insanely stressed, and as I will be having a small budget wedding, it will take away the time I could use to organise the rest of the things that come with wedding planning.
So if you’re deciding whether or not to DIY your flowers, I urge you to read this and think whether saving your money and DIYing your own flowers is worth the stress it will add to your special day.
